Over the past eighteen years we have covered a wide range of theological subjects in our annual Lent Course at St Helen's.
During this year's course we will consider Jesus, as he is presented to us, in St John's Gospel.
John records a number of specific claims by Jesus that are not recorded in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) which enable us to fill out our understanding of who Jesus is. If we ask Jesus "Who are you?" in St John's Gospel he answers "I am...........". These specific claims of Jesus are what will be explored during the five sessions.
A Lent Course provides us all with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Christian Faith. As in former years the course will consist of a series of five talks and PowerPoint presentation. Each will be completed in less that an hour and will be given in St Helen's Church Hall, Belle Vue Bank, Low Fell, on Sunday evenings at 7pm and repeated on Monday afternoons at 2pm beginning on Sunday 1st March.
In the past our Lent Courses have been well attended - usually 50-60 people.
No previous knowlege is necessary but it would be helpful if participants bring a copy of the Bible (including Old and New Testament) with them.
Notes will be handed out at the end of each session.
Who and what did Jesus claim to be?
